Hafiz F. Kassam, MD, FRCS(C)

Dr. Kassam has extensive experience in complex shoulder and elbow surgery, sports injuries and traumatic orthopedic reconstruction. After completing his residency at the University of Toronto, he received his shoulder and elbow fellowship training at both Yale University and the Bone and Joint Institute. He is currently an upper extremity specialist in Northern California with the Sutter North Medical Group and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at California Northstate University, where he is helping to develop innovative undergraduate educational models and interest in orthopedics.
Dr. Kassam has published numerous original scientific articles, technique guides and instructional videos. He has presented his work on both the national and international stage. He sits on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Arthroplasty (JSEA) and peer-reviews for The Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (JSES), Shoulder & Elbow (S & E) as well as Arthroscopy. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Canadian Orthopedic Association as well as a candidate member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Society. He is an invited member of the ASES Massive Rotator Cuff Tear Research Initiative.
An avid sportsman himself and having competed internationally as a ranked middleweight boxer, Dr. Kassam is dedicated to providing volunteer athletic care. He is a ringside physician for USA Boxing and head team physician for several local high schools in the North Valley community.
